Experienced V8 Supercar driver to oversee drivers in emerging category

FORMER Bathurst 24 Hour winner Cameron McConville has been appointed Driving Standards Advisor for the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series.

The highly experienced Victorian driver becomes the first ‘DSA’ appointed to the Kumho Series –run for ex-V8 Supercars - since it began in 2008.

McConville will dovetail the role with his driving standards work with the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, which like the Kumho Series, races on the Shannons Nationals program of events.

Series Format

The V8TC Series runs with the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships. The Shannons Nationals does not draw the crowds that enjoy V8 Supercar events. However, interest continues to grow and all of the rounds are at Australia's best circuits. Racing is enjoyable and well managed, and garages/paddock access will be more user friendly than the 'bigger' events. www.thenationals.com.au

All rounds of the Series run with the Shannons Nationals to ensure industry support, a stable format and consistency of officials, series personnel, and TV product etc. In addition, the proven format will ensure that the competitors know what to expect at each round.

Each car is required to be part of the CAMS Targeted Scrutiny program. However, there will be a level of tolerance if you have not been able to organise pre-season scrutiny, and 'traditional' scrutineering is available at each round.

Drivers require a CAMS National Circuit Licence (NC), or Provisional National Circuit licence (PC).

Each round consists of:

  • Three x 20-minute (optional) Friday practice sessions + Sponsor Ride Session
  • One x 20-minute Saturday practice session
  • One x 20-minute qualifying session
  • Two x 15-minute races
  • One x 25-minute race
