BJR RETURNS WITH A NEW SMITH
Jack is coming off a big year in 2016 where he raced in the Australian Formula 4 Championship and also contested 8 races in the Australian GT Trophy Series (MARC Class) claiming 4 wins 7 podium positions and 2 pole positions.
After doing a rookie evaluation day in September with Paul Morris Motorsport Jack had his Dunlop Series debut at Bathurst for the 250km race.
Jack is eager to gain as much time behind the wheel of a Supercar as he can hence the decision to take on both championships this year. Jack has the support of SCT logistics on his Dunlop Super2 and Kumho Series entries with both cars donning the same livery.
SCT is an Australian owned private company established in 1974 by Peter Smith. SCT is now a national multi-modal transport and logistics company. SCT offers a full complement of transport and logistics services including rail and road line haul services refrigerated transport services purpose built warehousing refrigerated facilities and port logistics services.
Jack completed a further rookie day with the team in December last year and he was able to get many laps behind the wheel of one of the next gen Supercars. As the day progressed Jack was getting more comfortable with the car producing consistent lap times and working with the engineers to look at areas to improve his race craft further.
Jack said “Im excited to get into the year ahead running in two categories will be great for my learning and development. Its a great opportunity for me to join Brad Jones Racing considering their history in the sport. From spending a bit of time in the workshop you can see that everyone is happy to help each other out and they really work together as a team.
Jack added “I got a fantastic first impression of the BJR Commodore in December. It was great to get that experience in the car get a few laps in and get comfortable with the car. The two test days planned for this week will be awesome I know Ill get a lot out of the days then well be counting down to Clipsal.
Team Boss Brad Jones: “I feel Jack is a very exciting young prospect for BJR. Stepping up into the Dunlop Super2 from any class is a big step which is why I think it will be beneficial for him to do the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series in the same season.
Jack is spending this week with the Albury based team which includes a two day test in the Super2 Commodore today and tomorrow.
