2010 Eastern Creek Preview – Old Warrieors Number Up

Heading into round four this weekend at Eastern Creek Raceway the Victorian driver of the former Ford Performance Racing Ford Falcon BA has notched up two round wins and a second to have a handy 71 point advantage over inaugural (2008) series winner Chris Smerdon.

Smerdon who started out the season in an ex-Stone Brothers Racing AU and then debuted a SBR BA at the last round has proven that consistency works and has kept the South Australian in the title hunt after three thirds overall in as many rounds.

Round one winner Terry Wyhoon (Vic) is a non-starter this weekend so too is fellow Falcon BA driver Dean Neville who won two races at the last (Winton) round and finished second overall in first appearance in the series.

But there will be several other strong Ford punters though like the West Australian Matt Hansen who is progressing along in his ex-Prancing Horse Racing AU Chris Delfsma in his ex-Howard Racing AU another SBR AU with Mark Sheppard at the helm and the former FPR AU of John Vergotis.

Holden numbers are strong here this weekend with former Development Series driver Sam Walter from Tasmania in an ex-Greg Murphy Racing VY leading the Commodore charge. He will be backed up by two former Garry Rogers Motorsports VYs in the hands of Stephen Voight (Qld) and Aaron Tebb (NSW) the Perkins Engineering machine of West Australia’s Dean Kovacevich while NSW’s Scott Loadsman completes the General’s line-up.

UPDATE: SHANNONS V8 TOURING CAR NATIONAL SERIES teams were faced with difficult and changing weather conditions yesterday through three practice sessions leading into round four.

In his newer Ford Smerdon set the provisional pace with a best lap of 1 minute 37.6891 seconds to be seven tenths faster than Commodore driver Walter with series leader Evangelou another three tenths away.

Like Walter many of the drivers taking part at round four are making their series debut including fourth fastest Voight while long timers Sheppard and Vergotis were next best placed.

Tebb made his debut at Winton and is currently seventh ahead of Kovacevich who alternates his drives with Isi Ambrosio Loadsman who provided Steve Owen with a Development Series winner in 2008 Hansen who ended up in a melee at the last round and Delfsma suffering mechanical issues after recent testing at the same venue.
