Ruggier Pushes Simpson In 100th Kumho Race

Sydney-based Ruggier led the opening seven laps of the 12 lap race though the series leader was able to work his way by and ease away to win by two seconds.

The victory extends Simpsons perfect strike rate of victories this season with his seventh race win from seven races so far in 2014.

Former V8 Supercar Development Series driver Drew Russell made a return to one of his Newcastle-based teams former Falcons finishing third in his first race of the year after qualifying fourth.

Albury-based driver Matt Chahda finished fourth in his ex-Jason Bright Falcon clear of Kumho Series rookie Ryan Cochran.

The young Queensland local is driving one of MW Motorsports ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcons with an impressive support cast of friends on hand to watch including factory FPR Pepsi Max driver Chaz Mostert.

Matthew Palmer finished sixth in his STR Truck Bodies Falcon clear of Steve Briffa Chris Delfsma local Shane Hunt (debuting his ex-Triple Eight Falcon) and John Vergotis.

The Queensland Raceway round will be completed tomorrow (Sunday August 10) with Race 2 at 10.35am and Race 3 at 3.30pm.
