BOWE TOPS A HOT DAY OF PRACTICE IN ADELAIDE

JOHN BOWE has picked up where he left off in the ENZED Touring Car Masters at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide topping practice on the opening day of a brand new season.

Bowe’s 1m30.47s topped the day as a bumper 31-car field took to the Adelaide streets on a sweltering day – and it’s only going to get hotter thanks to a scorching 37-degree forecast for tomorrow (Friday).

Eddie Abelnica ended the day second in his Adelaide’s Cheapest Cars Falcon XB Coupe while the returning Glenn Seton – back in the category full-time this year – ended his first day back in the office third in the Thunder Road Racing Ford Mustang.

While it was Fords 1-2-3 at the end of the day GM products were in close company with Andrew Miedecke’s Lubrimaxx Camaro (run by local team Whiteline Racing) fourth and Brett Youlden’s Autoline HQ Monaro GTS fifth.

Mark King ended the day sixth having earlier had a brief moment of glory when he topped the first practice session – only to have his time withdrawn following its completion.

King – a race winner in Adelaide twelve months ago – had set an impressive 1m29.8s time but lost his fastest lap of the session thanks to too much use of the famous kerbs at the Senna Chicane.

Still the pace was an indication that the Queenslander is likely to again be a contender for victories this season and put pressure on Bowe Miedecke Seton and the others in the Pro Master Class this year.

Jesus Racing’s Andrew Fisher iSeek Racing Torana driver Jason Gomersall and the ever popular Valliant Pacer of Cameron Tilley all featured in the top-10 today competing amongst one of the most competitive TCM grids ever assembled.

Two-time champion Gavin Bullas ended his day 8th in practice two driving his recently completed 1970 Ford Mustang – a car partly built by V8 Supercars outfit Prodrive Racing Australia.

2014 Clipsal 500 TCM race winner Tony Karanfilovski had a mixed day: he finished practice one a strong seventh before a mechanical issue early in race one saw him trail smoke and fluid in the early stages of the second session his Mustang retired to the side of the road.

Several new-to-TCM cars completed practice today including Jim Richards’ AMC Javelin Brad Tilley’s ’64 Ford Mustang and Ian Palmer’s Pontiac Firebird.

Several of the brand-new IROC Challenge-specification Porsche 911 RSs will be racing in their own class this weekend – Sven Burchartz the best of the bunch today and an impressive 13th outright in practice two.

Friday will be a big day for ENZED Touring Car Masters the Adelaide Tourist Trophy to kick off properly with qualifying in the morning followed by the opening race of the weekend later in the day.

TCM cars will again commence their races with a rolling start this season – a popular initiative introduced at the Clipsal 500 twelve months ago.

Race two will include the top half of the field being reversed while the finale’ features a grid determined by the combined points from races’ one and two.

Last year’s Clipsal 500 TCM round featured three different winners from three races and plenty of competitive racing with much the same expected this weekend.

Every session will be shown LIVE on FOX SPORTS this weekend – check your local guides for broadcast details.
