MIEDECKE READY TO GO FISHING FOR RESULTS IN DARWIN

IT’S SAFE to say that Andrew Miedecke loves the Northern Territory.

As a keen fisherman trips into the deep blue waters off the Northern coast and into the rugged red centre deliver plenty of rest and relaxation away from his busy working life at the helm of Port Macquarie’s Miedecke Motor Group.

And as a racing driver the 2.8km Hidden Valley circuit just South of Darwin’s CBD delivers a driving challenge that suits the Chevrolet Camaro racer in the ENZED Touring Car Masters (TCM).

The circuit has been one of Miedecke’s best in terms of results during his TCM career: his last five visits to Darwin for racing delivering superb performances aboard the Lubrimaxx / Whiteline Transport Racing entry.

Miedecke has not qualified outside the top six in the last five years: starts of 6th 3rd 5th 5th and 3rd last year placing the No. 95 entry at the pointy end regularly.

Those five rounds have delivered one overall victory (2011) plus two race wins and ten top-five finishes from fifteen races.

But the experienced racer says the overall Darwin experience is the best thing of all.

“Coming to Darwin is a welcome relief from the cool of the Southern parts of Australia – even Port Macquarie is cool this time of year.

“But what’s refreshing is to see the enthusiasm of the town and area has for this race meeting – it’s such a big thing for the Territory.

“I was eating lunch in town today and there was a girl walking down the street with all her pit passes and credentials already around her neck – clearly everyone gets really excited to come out to Hidden Valley.â€Â

Miedecke a qualified pilot has his own unique way of making sure he sees the most of the Northern Territory each year.

“Nearly every year and including this one I fly myself up in my own plane and go fishing†he explained.

“This time on the way up I went to King Ash Bay where there’s really great fishing. It’s a great territory experience. On the way back we’ll go south to Channel Point which is another great Territory experience.

“It’s great to be able to make the most of the trip and make several stops to see places people don’t get to see.â€Â

Miedecke’s Lubrimaxx-sponsored Chevrolet Camaro run by Bob and Sharon Middleton’s Whiteline Transport Racing was the last non-Ford to win in Darwin the team confident that they can break the streak of three successive wins by long-time racing rival John Bowe.

“We’ve won here at least a couple times†Miedecke said.

“I love the track and love the fact it’s got the longest straight – but also the biggest braking area at its end which is an area where my Camaro really excels.

“The car owner Bob Middleton has shouted the team brand new engine so expect to be pretty strong down the straight as well. I really look forward to it.â€Â

The fourth round of the ENZED Touring Car Masters gets underway this weekend at the SKYCITY Triple Crown event at Hidden Valley: practice to be held on Friday qualifying and the opening race Saturday and the final two races on Sunday afternoon.

Every session will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Motorsport – Channel 506.

2014 UPDATE: Following the release of final points from the 2014 season – delayed after lengthy deliberations by CAMS Stewards following several incidents at the end of last season – Andrew Miedecke and the Whiteline Racing team are pleased to have been secured in second-place overall for the 2014 season. Thanks to all who contributed to the great year!
