McCORKINDALE KEEN TO STAKE CLAIM FOR TITLE

The Kumho Tyre Super 3 Series is set to come alight in 2019 with twenty-five drivers entered for the opening round of the series at Phillip Island next weekend from Friday April 12th through to Sunday April 14th.

Former round winner Jon McCorkindale will be looking to start his championship in the best possible fashion and stake his claim to Kumho Super 3 Championship.

McCorkindale in his Dial before you dig/Mac Motorsport entry is looking to have a strong start to his 2019 championship at a circuit where he has won at before but also had mixed results.

“I have won at the circuit before and won the Phillip Island round back in 2017 Mccorkindale said.

“Last year we were right on the pace in practice and unfortunately had things go wrong over the weekend and didnt get result we were after but we are looking to start strong next weekend.”

McCorkindale went for his first test of the season last week down at Phillip Island but due to mechanical issues was only able to turn ten laps and by his own admission has noted he is well behind the rest of the field.

“We had a terrible test day where we were only able to turn ten laps for the whole test. We had a front upright fail and we had no chance of repairing it on the day which is defiantly not ideal going into the opening round but we will regroup I have a strong team who will give me every chance next weekend.”

McCorkindale is excited by the 2019 season but also understanding how tough the series will be this year with new teams and new drivers all coming in giving the biggest field the series has seen since its inclusion as a supercars support category.

“Im super excited for the series this year. Twenty five drivers in the field at the opening round with some super professional outfits its going to be tough racing but I believe our team has what it takes to mix it in this field.”

McCorkindale is looking to have a strong start to the championship in what he believes can be a top five season for himself and the Dial before you dig/Mac Motorsport Team.

“Realistically a top five season would be a great result in this class field. Matt White Motorsport is going to be the team to beat in my eyes but if we can be consistent and strong throughout the year I dont see why our team cant be pushing top five in this championship.”

The opening round of the Kumho Tyre Super 3 Series will see coverage of practice 2 qualifying and all three races live on FOX Sports 506.
