Rookie claims pole in Super3 at Sydney Motorsport Park
Young 17-year-old Jaylyn Robotham has claimed an outstanding Gulf Western Oil pole position in his maiden appearance in the Super3 Series at Sydney Motorsport Park today.
Driving for MW Motorsport, the Victorian will start from first place for the opening twilight race this evening, ahead of another qualifying session and race tomorrow.
The feat has earned Robotham a cool $500 from pole award sponsor Gulf Western Oil.
Robotham will start in eighth place on the grid – the first race meeting where the Super2 and Super3 grids have been combined.
Qualifying second in class and 13th outright is another V8 rookie, Declan Fraser, who showed strong pace in the opening practice sessions.
Third place went to privateer racer Jon McCorkindale and young female racer Madeline Stewart from the Brad Jones Racing stables.
The 18 lap race starts at 5:05pm AEST.
