Nash Morris goes back-to-back in Super3 Qualifying

NASH MORRIS has gone back-to-back and scored his second straight Dunlop Super3 Series pole position on the streets of Townsville, grabbing pole for Race 5 of the season this afternoon in North Queensland.

In a tight 10-minute session, Morris’ set his quickest time on his final flying lap of the session to edge out Blake Fardell by just 0.29 seconds.

Morris’ 1m16.2531s was slightly slower than the outright pace from last weekend as the 2.8km Reid Park circuit continues to rubber in this weekend.

Fardell’s second placed-effort marked his career-best performance in the Dunlop Super2 Series for the emerging Mr HDT Race Cars-backed Holden Commodore driver.

Championship leader Michael Anderson qualified third after admitting to a mistake on his fastest lap of the session, the Kenwood Homes Falcon driver ultimately finishing third and 0.56s off Morris’ fastest time.

The second row of the grid will be completed by last weekend’s podium finisher Reef McCarthy, who’s continued improvement saw him within 0.7s of the fastest time.

Brendan Strong and Jason Gomersall make up the third row of the grid, with Chris Smerdon – celebrating his 50th round – and Gary Collins completing the eight-car field.

David Murphy was a late withdrawal from the round having been caught up in the New South Wales border closures this week.

The first of two races this weekend – the fifth of the 2021 series – will start at 3:30pm AEST and will be shown live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports.
