Morris grabs third-straight Super3 pole

NASH MORRIS has scored a third-straight Dunlop Super3 Series pole position, taking the top spot in qualifying for the sixth race of the 2021 series this morning in Townsville.

Morris’ 1m16.2828s flyer came on his final flyer and extended what was a tiny 0.008s margin to title rival Michael Anderson to a much more comfortable 0.68s by the end of the session.

RESULTS: Qualifying 2

Anderson improved from his Saturday efforts by qualifying second, however despite several late attempts was unable to reduce the margin to the young Queenslander.

Morris’ is just the fifth driver to score three or more consecutive pole positions in the V8 Touring Car / Super3 history – joining former champion Chris Smerdon and Morgan Haber with his third straight.

Only Jack Smith (5) and Ryan Simpson (8) have scored more consecutive pole awards in the series’ history.

Blake Fardell missed a spot on the front row of the grid for the second straight day by just 0.2 seconds, in turn edging out Jason Gomersall by 0.1 seconds for the inside of the second row.

Gomersall’s performance represented a career-best for the Matt Stone Racing driver.

Erebus junior Reef McCarthy was fifth, while Chris Smerdon and Gary Collins completed the seven qualifiers.

Following his engine dramas yesterday, Brendan Strong is a non-starter for today’s sixth race of the championship.

While the team did have a spare, the operation is running on a skeleton crew this weekend due to the various border restrictions in place, and the demands of back-to-back weekends of racing, and as such did not have the resource to install the replacement engine in time for today’s running.

The final race of the weekend starts at 2:20pm local time and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports.
