Collins targeting third-generation race
Long-time Dunlop Super 3 / V8 Touring Cars regular Garry Collins says he loves the atmosphere of the series – and has big plans for the future.
Collins, who races a familiar ex-Kelly Racing Jack Daniel’s VE Commodore, says his grandson is rapidly getting up to speed in a Formula Ford and the ambition is for a multi-generational race to happen at some point in the future.
“I started when I was 13 years old, racing against my dad, and beat him in the first race in speedway,” Collins said.
“My grandson is coming to take after me soon, I’ve just bought a Formula Ford for my grandson, Bailey Collins – he’s fast and already on the pace.
“I raced against my father, I raced against my son and the aim is to race against my Grandson.”
Collins says he loves his time in Supercars third-tier, racing this year alongside the Dunlop Super2 Series ranks.
“I’ve been racing 53 years in all categories but this is the toughest one!,” he said.
“The atmosphere of Supercars, the people, it’s really great. At my age I’ve got to take it as I can get it.”
