Allen moves to series lead with Race 1 win in Perth

KAI ALLEN has moved to a clear lead in the Dunlop Super3 Series standings thanks to a strong race one victory in the Perth twilight.

Allen, driving for Eggleston Motorsport, ran with the Super2 Series cars throughout a wild 24-lap affair – winning a race that finished under Safety Car ahead of Blake Fardell and Garry Hills.

RESULTS: Race 1

Coming into the weekend tied on points with closest rival Bradley Vaughan, Allen now takes a clear championship lead into race two tomorrow – an advantaged compounded by a challenging day for the Falcon driver.

Starting from pit lane, a late Safety Car benefited Bradley Vaughn as he tried to blaze his way back into contention.

Vaughan took just seven laps to scythe his way to fourth position in the Super3 pack, despite giving up more than 10 seconds to the field by virtue of his pit lane start.

He passed Hills for third a lap later, setting out after Fardell and leader Allen through the race’s midpoint.

A Safety Car saw him close onto the tail of Fardell, the Anderson Motorsport Falcon moving to second on the 20th lap.

The pair traded places for several laps, Vaughan crossing the line in second position – though he wouldn’t remain there.

A 15-second post race time penalty for contact with a Super2 car saw him tumble down the order to ultimately be classified in eighth position.

Hills’ third position outright also ensured he won the Dunlop Super3 Cup class, Jim Pollicina and Jason Gomersall finishing in close company behind.

Chris Smerdon, Tony Auddino, Vaughan and Steven Page completed the Super3 runners in race one.

Race 2 will see the battle resume in daylight conditions at Wanneroo, the race to be shown live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports at 2:25pm local time.
