Date, circuit switch for Round 3 of Kumho Series set

A SHIFT from Sydney to Queensland highlights a change to the 2023 Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series calendar announced today.

Changes to the planned July round at Sydney Motorsport Park – which now moves to a new date in November to accommodate the first of two TCR World Tour events in Australia – will see the V8TC series shift their third round from the Sydney circuit to Queensland Raceway in August.

The shift will see the Kumho Series continue to race with the Shannons SpeedSeries, with Round 3 now set for the August 11-13 weekend at the Ipswich circuit.

That event is set to now become a blockbuster weekend with The V8’s to be joined by the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Trans-Am Series, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge and Australian Production Cars on the program.

The calendar shift allows for the series to maintain relatively consistent spacing between rounds, while maintaining an exciting season finale’ at Mount Panorama at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

The remainder of the schedule is unchanged, with the reborn series to launch at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit with the Shannons SpeedSeries on 12-14 May.

From there, the series heads to Winton in June, Queensland in August before the penultimate round at Sandown this September and Bathurst’s season finale’.

Interest in the V8 Touring Cars series remains high with a strong field anticipated for the opening round at Phillip Island next month.

“The Sydney Shannons SpeedSeries round moving to November would have resulted in back-to-back rounds for V8 Touring Cars competitors.

“Given it’s only a five-round series, we have elected to shift the third round to Queensland Raceway in August. This allows for similar separation between rounds in the 2023 calendar, and a solid break between Sandown and the final round at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International in November.

“Queensland Raceway has always produced entertaining, competitive racing in the V8 Touring Car series and we’re excited to have the series as part of that massive Shannons SpeedSeries event in August.”
