Tilley and Hislop split Saturday V8TC honours
Jamie Tilley and Ray Hislop have split the Saturday honours after taking respective victories in the two Kumho V8 Touring Car Series races at Queensland Raceway.
The first race of the day saw Tilley convert his front row start into a race win in his Notlaw Racing Ford Mustang, finishing ahead of Hislop and polesitter Jude Bargwanna.
Pre-race favourite and Anderson Motorsport driver Bargwanna dropped a number of places after stalling on the start line, playing catchup for the remainder of the race.
That left both Tilley and Hislop to pull away from the chasing pack, with nothing but clean air for the former to cruise to the line for his second race win of the year.
Bargwanna’s recovery to third place kept his series lead intact, with MoComm Communication Motorsports Jim Pollicina finishing in fourth after besting Turbo Brisbane’s Jarred Danaher.
The second race of the day saw both Hislop and Bargwanna get a great jump off the line to take the lead ahead of race one winner Tilley, with the trio then finding themselves within half a second of each other in the early to middle stages.
Hislop would remain in the lead for a number of laps before Bargwanna made what we thought was going to be the race winning move to take the lead.
Unable to pull away, the series leader would succumb to the pressure behind and run wide with only a couple of laps remaining, opening the door for Hislop to take back the lead and go on to take his first victory of the season.
“We are so excited to get that win. we spent a bit of time trying to get the car in a window that I like and thankfully this weekend it’s all come together,” Hislop said.
“We are really happy to get to the front and then be able to maintain consistent in the car, I was waiting for Jude and Jamie to come through and pull away from me, but it didn’t happen, so I am very happy.
“I think part of it is we were in the car last weekend, and we’ve sort of jumped on top of what the car wanted, because we changed quite a bit, so today we’ve just been slowly playing with the shock absorbers.
“We have a 22 lapper tomorrow. I think everyone is going to suffer in that beat, cars included.
“I’ll had the cool suit on today. And I feel comfortable in the car, so I’ll be interesting to see – especially since it’s supposed to be a couple of degrees hotter tomorrow.”
Finishing in third place was Pollicina, who was able to get past Tilley after the latter ran wide. Not only did Tilley give up his chance of a back-to-back win, but ultimately lost his place on the podium as well.
The final Kumho V8 Touring Car Series race will take place on Sunday at 1:30pm AEST.
