Tilley on top in tough Friday at Sandown

JAMIE TILLEY has picked up where he left off in the Kumho V8 Touring Cars Series, the Queensland winner topping the single practice session held today at Sandown ahead of the fourth round of the series this weekend. 

In a weather-affected day, the Kumho Series lost their planned first session when a crash in an earlier category forced lengthy repairs to the barriers, delaying the schedule.

The second session was then contested over 25 minutes on a drying circuit, Tilley’s 1m14.97s best putting him on top.

The Sydneysider ended the session 0.3 seconds clear of the field in a session that saw time drop considerably throughout, yet still end somewhere north of three seconds behind the Kumho Series’ lap record at the circuit.

Kinder conditions are forecast for the remainder of the Sandown weekend.

Young Victorian Antonio Molluso ended up second – his local experience paying off in practice.

His Burson Auto Parts Falcon is being run by Image Racing this weekend, the team and driver back in the series having last raced at Phillip Island earlier this year.

Series leader Jude Bargwanna was third in his series-leading Anderson Motorsport Falcon. Tony Auddino was next, with Jim Pollicina, Jason Foley and newcomer Andrew Cook seventh in his ex-Team Dynamik Commodore.

Three drivers took no part in practice however will join the field for qualifying and the subsequent races tomorrow.

Action this weekend will be broadcast live on Stan Sport with Race 1 also live on 9Gem or 9Go on the Nine Network around Australia.
