Morris moves to series lead after three rounds
NASH MORRIS has gone from never having won a Touring Car race to leading the Dunlop Super3 Series in the space of just eight days.
Thanks to a remarkable run of form in Townsville, Morris has now claimed back-to-back round victories in the third-tier of Supercars racing and, when coupled with dramas for closest title rival Michael Anderson, now also leads the championship after three rounds.
Morris’ strong weekend in Townsville, which saw him win race 1 and finish second in race two following a 15-second time penalty, has projected him to a 42-point series lead after three rounds.
Image Racing’s Reef McCarthy now sits second overall after also having banked back-to-back round podium finishes in Townsville.
The story has changed for erstwhile series leader Michael Anderson, however, as the Bathurstian drops to third position having claimed the lead after the opening race in Townsville two weeks ago.
Anderson has gone from a more than 40-point championship lead to trailing Morris by 111 points following his Race 2 non-finish on Sunday at the weekend.
Anderson still leads the Super3 Cup class, however, heading into the half-way point of the series.
Jason Gomersall’s best Super3 round yet has seen him climb to fourth in the championship, while Round 3 runner-up Blake Fardell has raced up the order to fifth place.
Following two hectic rounds in North Queensland, the series heads into a winter break ahead of competition returning – the next round expected to be held in late August.
