Allen fights back in Race 2 Qualifying

In his bid to atone for second place on Saturday, Kai Allen blew the opposition away in qualifying with a 1 minute 14.9605 second flyer to secure pole for race two of Dunlop Super3’s third round in Townsville.

The Eggleston Motorsport Holden Commodore VE driver did one more lap – a flat 1 minute 15 – and parked in the pits while archrival Brad Vaughan tried to match his time.

In the Anderson Motorsport Ford Falcon FG, Vaughan finished second but was well off (eight tenths) the Allen time. Third again was Blake Fardell in the Muscle Car Warehouse VE, just 0.05 seconds off the Falcon.

Jim Pollicina (Mocomm VE) snared fourth spot and was the first of the Super3 Cup drivers, but only one hundredth of a second off Matt Stone Racing’s Jason Gomersall (Unit FG), and his teammate Chris Smerdon.

Also in the 17s were Ray Hislop (FG) and Steven Page (VE) while Garry Hills (VE) and next as Jarrad Danaher laboured with an engine drama. The FG driver finished ahead of James Masterton (VE), Tony Auddino (Falcon BF) and Layton Barker (VE).

There was further bad news for Shane Beikoff after he missed race one due to accident damage in qualifying. After burning the midnight oil repairing the Falcon AU, Beikoff spun out of turn three on the out lap and clouted the wall, causing more damage.
