Rookie season rocketing Allen into the record books

A STUNNING debut season in the Dunlop Super3 Series has rocketed teenage sensation Kai Allen into the combined V8 Touring Cars / Dunlop Super3 Series record books this year.

The Eggleston Motorsport driver has made his mark on the 2022 season, not only mixing it up with the heavy-hitters in the Dunlop Super2 Series, but holding a handy lead in the Super3 standings against strong competition that includes the likes of Bradley Vaughan and Blake Fardell.

Founded in 2008, the V8TC / Super3 record books are filled with a host of notable performances – all of which now include Allen’s name.

Allen has won 3 consecutive rounds this year – should he win a fourth, he’ll join elite company.

Nash Morris won 4 consecutive rounds in his 2021 title-winning campaign, while the record holder is Ryan Simpson – who won six straight across 2013-14.

Only Morris and Josh Hunter (in 2012) have won four rounds in a single V8 Touring Car / Super3 Series season before.

Allen has won four races in the series so far this year, with plenty of racing to come. A fifth will see him tied for 12th on the all-time winners list with Garry Jacobson and former champion, Justin Ruggier – also an Eggleston Motorsport driver.

Allen’s five pole positions place him on equal third on the all-time list, alongside Nash Morris and Jack Smith. Only Chris Smerdon (7) and Ryan Simpson, with eight, have more.

Allen has five consecutive poles – only achieved by two other drivers (Smith and Morris). Ryan Simpson is best of all, with eight, with no one in between.

One more pole position will see Allen set the record for most poles in a season in V8TC / Super3 history, a record he currently jointly holds with Morris.

Allen has led 73 laps so far this year, 11th all-time in the series. With a maximum of 44 laps up for grabs this weekend, Allen could leave Sandown having led 117 laps – which would place him sixth in the all-time list.

Two lap records have fallen this year, Allen setting a new Townsville benchmark in the most recent round, while Brad Vaughan set the benchmark at Wanneroo Raceway on the series’ first visit earlier this year.

Zak Best owns the Sandown Super3 record, set in 2019 at 1m09.7833s.

The Dunlop Super3 Series hits the track on Friday for practice ahead of a pair of 22-lap races this weekend.

All sessions on Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sport.
