Tilley bests Pollicina in Race three

Notlaw Racing’s Jamie Tilley has claimed victory in race three of the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series’ season opener at Phillip Island, putting an end to Jude Bargwanna’s dominance of the competition.

Having dominated Friday’s practice sessions, it took Tilley until the final race to get his first win for the weekend as he beat Jim Pollicina and Bargwanna in the process.

After working his way up to second at the race start, Tilley found himself behind the experienced Pollicina, who defended the position and blocked multiple attempts in the opening 10 laps.

Fortunately for Tilley, he was able to finally get a move done on Pollicina during the 11th lap when a gap was left open for the New South Welshman to dive down the inside of turn one.

Once he took the lead, Tilley was able to pull away and convert a consistent weekend into a race win.

“It was good to get the win, we have put in a lot of work over the weekend and to see it all finally come together was a great feeling,” Tilley said.

“Pollicina defended quite hard, I tried for a while to get past but I couldn’t get through – I stayed patient, waited for a mistake and it eventually paid off so that was nice.

“We have a great small team here at Notlaw Racing, I have a lot of faith in them and I can’t wait to get out here for a few more rounds.

“I learnt a lot; I have a lot more confidence now and I’m looking forward to keeping it going.”

Behind him, Pollicina came under fire from Bargwanna, who had charged his way through the grid after stalling on the start line.

Bargwanna was unable to make his way past Pollicina, who once again showcased his strong defending skills until the checkered flag and claim second.

Although he had to settle for third place, Bargwanna had done enough to claim outright honours in the opening round of the season – an impressive effort considering he had never stepped in a V8 before this weekend.

Pollicina and Hislop rounded out the podium places after a consistent haul of good results.

The Kumho V8 Touring Car Series will be back on track during Race Winton at Winton Motor Raceway on 9-11 June.
