Bargwanna completes Winton grand slam

Jude Bargwanna has completed the grand slam after taking yet another Kumho V8 Touring Car Victory at Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton.

A poor start in the days earlier race didn’t seem to faze the series leader in the third outing, getting a perfect jump off the line to lead Notlaw Racing’s Jamie Tilley throughout the opening stages of the race.

Not able to recreate his incredible start in that second race, Jim Pollicina sat in third and applied the pressure to Tilley Ford Mustang FG as the lead at the front started to grow.

Another battle starting to mount was between Rightway Industrial’s Tony Auddino and ANT Racing’s Tony Evangelou, producing an entertaining battle with both drivers entered in similar Ford Falcons.

The dominant Bargwanna would go untouched to the flag, crossing the line 15 seconds clear of Tilley who was able to pull away a further five seconds ahead of Pollicina’s Holden Commodore VE.

After making an audacious move on Auddino, Evangelou was able to win the battle of the Tony’s and claim yet another fourth-place finish – making it three from three for the weekend.

Bargwanna was thrilled to walk away with another round victory and leant a lot from going the entire weekend on a single set of tyres.

“It was really good to get the car up the front and take the win here at Winton,” Bargwanna said.

“We came into the weekend with a plan to save a set of tyres, meaning we only ran on one set.

“It was quite difficult to manage the tyre because they were quite worn out, but managing the gap throughout the weekend was a massive learning curve and it’s a great development series to push onto something like Supercars.”

After clean-sweeping all three races, Bargwanna stands tall on top of the outright podium for the weekend alongside Tilley and Pollicina – with the latter leading the way for the Kumho Cup.

The Kumho V8 Touring Car Series will next join the Shannons SpeedSeries calendar at the Queensland Raceway on 11-13 August.
