BROC FEENEY TO ENTER KUMHO TYRE SUPER3 SERIES WITH MORRIS

The youngster has had a meteoric rise since making his car racing debut in Australia last year becoming the youngest ever race winner of the Toyota 86 Racing Series at just 15 at The Bend then backing that up with a win at Sandown.

The Kumho Tyre Super3 Series – set to begin April 12-14 at Phillip Island – was the logical next step for Feeney particularly with the increased presence it will receive in 2019 by becoming officially the third tier of the Supercars ladder behind the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and Dunlop Super2 Supercars Series. It uses cars that have underpinned some of the Champions of the sport in days gone by.

At four of the five events the Series will receive the benefit of Supercars live television package on Fox Sports approaching over two hours of coverage per weekend.

“It is exciting that after just one season in circuit racing that we can move straight into the Kumho Tyre Super3 Series said Feeney. “Paul has presented a very good opportunity for us to be part of coupled with the additional interest in the Series this year moving into the Supercars ladder.

“Ive already been working with Paul on driver training throughout last year with the Toyota 86 Racing Series and with the resources available here at the Norwell Motorplex it will give me an awesome platform to move forward in my racing career.

“Thankfully Ill start the season with some idea of what to expect having driven some evaluation laps in one of Pauls cars as well as a full days running with Brad Jones Racing at Winton at the end of last year.

“The work Paul has been doing with Anton de Pasquale and other young drivers over the past few years speaks volumes for what he is building on and allowing us to be part of.

Based at the Norwell Motorplex north of the Gold Coast the Paul Morris Motorsport team is one of the best equipped motorsport operations in Australia and the signing of Feeney is part of a broader stable that Morris is building to uncover the future stars of Australian motorsport.

“Im looking to find the next big star in Australian motorsport and while there are many drivers out there looking to make their way forward there are very few that have the ability to apply the theoretical applications delivered to them to their on-track driving said Morris – the only driver to have won the Bathurst 1000 6 Hour and 12 Hour.

“Broc I can see has that ability. He has a natural feel behind the wheel he doesnt have too many bad habits and when we identify any that he does we arm him with the tools to change it – he listens – and then he goes about correcting what weve identified.

“We aim to give young kids the right environment to learn in the right way and that is what were developing for Broc.

“Hes very similar to Anton (de Pasquale) in this sense who is one of the most exciting talents Ive ever had through the Norwell Motorplex.

Feeney will combine his Kumho Tyre Super3 campaign with studies at All Saints Anglican College and Schools-based Apprenticeship training through TAFE Queensland. His arrangement with Morris sees the practical element of his apprenticeship to take place at the Norwell Motorplex.

Feeneys breakout 2018 season in the Toyota 86 Racing Series saw him win two races and become the youngest driver ever to win a race – a feat that wont change in the foreseeable future due to rule changes – and be awarded the Toyota Most Unbreakable Performance Award for his Sandown win and the Publicity Star Award at the end of season presentation gala.

This was off the back of his 2017 karting success where he was the Australian elite Junior Champion the first ever Australian to stand on the podium at the Rok International Cup and finish second at the Las Vegas Supernats – the biggest karting event in the world.

The official launch of Feeneys livery and sponsorship arrangements will follow ahead of the opening round of the Kumho Tyre Super3 Series at Phillip Island in April.
