Chris Delfsma V8 Touring Cars preview for Wakefield Park, NSW on April 1-3

He could have finished off his maiden year as high as fourth overall in the 2010 series but the engine of his ex-Howard Racing Century 21 Ford Falcon AU race car blew in the final practice session of the last round at Sandown in Victoria.
“Since the blow up the car has been obviously without an engine – so unfortunately no testing has been done at all he confided recently. “I got the engine back last week and it is in the car and ready for Wakefield.
“I expect it will take me a few sessions to get back to where I was as at Eastern Creek last year (his best round in 2010) as that is the last time I actually raced the car! he added.
Delfsma has been quick to acknowledge that the standard of competition has jumped significantly in the off season. “At each of the three rounds I went to last year I really concentrated on honing my driving technique in these sorts of cars – which are a far cry from the Production Car Falcon I drove previously.
“Working with a Data Engineer was new but has helped enormously. If I can improve on the form from Eastern Creek last year then I should be aiming to be on the podium this year even though I think the competition has stepped up a notch or two with many later model cars coming in he said.
Delfsma has been something of a revelation since joining the series from Production Cars for the Winton round three. After solid results there the rookie improved at Eastern Creek finishing fourth overall. “After narrowly missing a podium at Eastern Creek through bad starts I had been concentrating on that as well.
The team felt that with some improvements to the car everything was in place for a good Sandown result until the engine went. “It is a shame really to miss out on racing at Sandown its a track I like a lot and we have had good results there in the past so I was really looking forward to racing there Delfsma concluded.
