Morris claims Dunlop Super3 title in Race 1

Nash Morris won the first race of the Dunlop Super3 finale’ at Mt Panorama to close out the series title.

With one race to run, the Boost Mobile-backed driver is now mathematically unbeatable in the standings heading into the Saturday finale’.

RESULTS: Race 1, Mount Panorama

In his Boost Mobile Ford Falcon FG, Morris led all the way and finished six seconds ahead of Blake Fardell (Muscle Car Warehouse Holden Commodore VE) and Jim Pollicina in his MoComm Commodore VE.

The race was marred by a pair of safety cars, the first for David Murphy who spun off and beached his FG at Murrays Corner on the first lap.

Another safety car was brought about when Paul Boschert (VE) was tipped into the McPhillamy Park sand trap by a Super2 car.

The prime mover in the field was Reef McCarthy, who started at the rear of field.

The Image Racing driver had worked his way to second place, before his Griffith Corporation FG went onto seven cylinders. Shortly after the oil light came on, forcing McCarthy to shut the car down and park it before the Cutting.

Michael Anderson (FG) was running fourth – and then third when McCarthy had problems – before a badly flat-spotted tyre forced him to concede to Pollicina.

In fifth place was Steven Page (VE) ahead of Brad Jones Racing rookie Elly Morrow and James Masterton, both driving Commodores.

Gary Collins (VE) was eighth just in front of Jason Foley (Falcon BF) who had made a quick pitstop early on with a suspected engine power drama. Murphy recovered for tenth ahead of Boschert.

The final race of the 2021 Dunlop Super3 Series will be held tomorrow, with live coverage on Fox Sports, Kayo and the Seven Network.
